We are introducing new colour-themed system and section guidelines to respond to our wider range of players.
Our goal is to provide an enjoyable, friendly game for all our players, irrespective of whether they primarily have a social or a competitive focus, or are new to the game.
We will use three colour-coded section types (with matching table numbers and system cards!) to suit our different players:
- Green - For recent graduates of supervised sessions or other players with relatively few masterpoints who are playing the basic system taught by our Bridge Education team and transitioning to regular duplicate play. As at June 2018 we have three sessions with green sections: Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. We provide green-coloured Peninsula Basic system cards for these players.
- Red - For those playing common systems who enjoy the social aspects of the game and competing with similar players, but may be intimidated when confronted by unfamiliar systems/conventions. As at June 2018 red sections are provided at all regular sessions except for Tuesday night. We provide red-coloured Peninsula Standard system cards with a "tick-a-box" choice of systems familiar to the majority of our social players. Only those systems listed on the Peninsula Basic or Standard system cards may be used in Red sections. For ease of use a list of the main systems/conventions not included in the Standard card is maintained on the noticeboard/here.
- Open/Blue - For open players or those who use less familiar systems - only those "highly unusual methods" classified by the ABF as yellow system are not permitted. Players will be expected to use either ABF or blue-coloured Peninsula Open system cards. Blue sections will be provided on Tuesday nights, most daytime sessions and whenever there is sufficient demand.
The sections will use matching coloured table number cards, and section results will also be labeled with their colours.
While recognising that we are starting from a low base, we will be promoting over the long term the club-wide use of completed system cards on the table, partly as a courtesy to one's opponents. The "tick-a-box" red-coloured Peninsula Standard system cards have, in particular, been designed to be very quick to complete. Participation in some special events may be constrained to those with completed system cards.
There may be some teething issues in implementing these colour-themed system and section guidelines and we ask for your help in facilitating enjoyable bridge for all. If an inconsistency with these guidelines occurs that the director cannot resolve at the time easily and without argument then the director will note the inconsistency for later followup.
