The Northern Region defeated the South at the Sydney Regional Final on Sunday. The North was represented by Trumps (A grade and B grade), Gordon (C grade), and Peninsula (D grade), and all won their matches. The Northern representatives for next year are to be determined at the Sydney North InterClub Teams Challenge at Peninsula on Sunday 8 February 2015. The Peninsula D team were Mike Pengelly, Tim Mussared, Peter Clarke and SarahYoung (replacing Jim Rothwell). Mike and Tim were placed first in the Butler ranking for the day.
As usual everyone ate too much, complained about the trivia quiz, demolished Sue's profiteroles in record time, played plenty of bridge, drank lots of champagne and punch and generally had a good time. We had the largest number ever (138) and Avalon meats were very worried that some would go hungry but there was plenty of food. Terry and Lois Rothwell did a great job supervising the beginners and Sue Riley and Vickie and Kerry Busteed worked very hard to organise the day. Thanks to everyone who helped including Colin Mingay (pictured).
The winner of the Stebbins competition was Rachael Loomes. Chris Duggin and Jocelyn Bertram were first in the Sloman and Anne Small and Ron Smith won the Padman Trophy. Congratulations to all!
Quite a few teams from Peninsula participated in the Margaret Smith Memorial Teams day at the Manly Leagues Club. It was a most enjoyable day and a few Peninsula teams won prizes. For full results see the Bridge Game Info web-site.
Peninsula's Melbourne cup day was well attended and enjoyed by all. Thanks to Sue Riley and Rachael Loomes for organising a fantastic lunch and Lyn Hamill for the sweeps and to everyone else who helped on the day. Agnes Cootes won the most elegant hat prize with a stylish concoction from Vinnies. It was good to see so many new players in the supervised section enjoying the day and the bridge. The winners of the supervised section were Arthur, Jenny, Paul and Judy.
