Dear members,

April sees the start of the Autumn Individual Competition on Mondays which is a great opportunity to play with different partners over 4 Mondays (only three scores count so you can start on Monday 8 April).

On Sunday 28 April, Peninsula hosts the annual Swiss Teams Congress - a great day for players of every level of experience. Swiss Teams means that you quickly find yourself playing with similarly experienced players and it is a lot of fun. The sign- up sheet is on the noticeboard and you can sign up as a team of four, or as a pair to be matched up.

On a sad note, I am sorry to inform you of the death of Pamela Burge. Pamela had been a regular player in the Red Row for nearly 10 years and will be missed by all her friends and fellow bridge players.

Premises Update

Thank you for your participation in the Council survey about the Club’s needs for the new premises.

The Premises Working Group, which reports to the Committee on premises progress, has been expanded. It is now chaired by John Simmonds, and includes David Farmer, Greg Hay, Bill Fitzsimmons, Mike Hartnell, Terry Herfort, Robin Devries, Christine Banham and myself. We now have a strong and experienced team to manage the process of ensuring the best outcome for the Club’s future premises.

We will be meeting with Council on Thursday 4 April to hear about the results of the survey and be updated on the project. We will be working closely with Council to ascertain what they intend to offer us and the terms under which it will be offered. We will keep you fully informed as the discussion progresses.

We will be presenting a letter to Council at the meeting seeking a formal response to a series of questions regarding their intentions in respect of our club. This letter will be attached to my next President’s Newsletter.

We have been given to understand the Council intends to demolish the current facilities in August 2020. Whilst this is a year away we are conscious of the need to continue to look at all options. Whilst our preferred option is to remain where we are at Warriewood in the new Council Community Centre we will continue our review of possible alternative venues. Members will be updated as and when appropriate. Please be assured, our goal is to ensure the long term prosperity of the Club and its continued service as both a thriving Bridge Club and important community group.

Regards

Sarah Young
