I hope you have Monday 6 May in your diaries and are coming along to Bridge for Brains, an Australia-wide ABF-organised charity event. The proceeds go to Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) - an independent, not-for-profit research institute based in Sydney, Australia, aiming to prevent, treat and cure brain and nervous system diseases, disorders and injuries through medical research.

Premises Update

In April, members of the Committee and the Premises Working Group met with Council representatives regarding the initial community consultation on the Warriewood Valley Community Centre.

The survey results illustrated the wonderful response by PBC members, who were heavily represented in the sample profile. This response communicated clearly to Council that our bridge and our Clubhouse are extremely important to us all. Thank you for taking part in the survey and expressing your views by letter and email.

We presented the Peninsula Bridge Club premises requirement document for inclusion in the architect’s design brief. This document outlines the Peninsula Bridge Club core premises requirements at this time, designed to ensure our needs are met by Council’s proposal and the new centre’s design.

The document addresses:

  • Space needs- size and floor plan- playing area, kitchen, office, technology support space, store-room, social morning/ afternoon tea area
  • Ambience - light, airy and sound-attenuating ambience, air conditioned
  • Security of tenure
  • Ability to be able to easily divide the full playing area
  • Storage
  • Sole use of the space
  • Accessibility - easy level access without stairs within the clubhouse and to and from parking and toilet facilities
  • Parking – number of car spaces, and disability parking spaces
  • Proximity to public transport
  • Bathroom facilities
  • Fitout /signage

Council hoped to have a needs brief ready for incorporation into a Design Brief after Easter.

Their key milestones for development are:

  1. Architect appointed - end July 2019
  2. Exhibition of Concept - October 2019
  3. Development Application Lodgement - March 2020
  4. DA approval - July 2020
  5. Construction - end 2020 to end 2021

We are meeting with Council again on 6 May to discuss what commitments Council can provide regarding possible size of space and security of tenure. We are also continuing to look at alternative venues that we may wish to consider in conjunction with what the Council is able to provide in the new Centre.

We will continue to update you regularly on this important issue.
