Melbourne Cup 2020 at Peninsula Bridge club was marked by teamwork and fun. Members enjoyed a memorable day with good bridge, good company and a great race, peppered with music, games, and fascinating headwear. Thanks to everyone who helped make this day such fun.
Members were welcomed by our Meeter and Greeter, Libby and, accompanied by Melbourne cup music, directed to Pauline’s punting, sweepstake, selection table. They then picked up a snack or chocolate, organised by Robin, showed off their sartorial elegance and they made their way to the bridge tables.
On the tables were amusing summaries of the melbourne cup field and a quiz, designed by Mike Gibb, to test their trivial knowledge of the cup’s history.
After the bridge game the tables were transformed with red and white table clothes, mini horses, balloons and colourful table decorations, crafted by Mary, Felicity and the talented, table team.
Music, Food and wine flowed, in a very Covid safe way, as a lead up to a wonderful race.
Winners of the day included: Fascinator- Felicity Lawn, Gents Hat -Mike Gibb, Trivia - The Mignonne and Robert Johnston team, And of course, the bridge; won by Brian Sheppard and Fred Makenzie. (who also cleaned up in the sweepstake)
In case you haven’t heard, the Melbourne cup was won by Twilight Payment.
