We had quite a few Peninsula players entered in the Under 300/Under 750 Teams event. Annegrete Kolding was playing in a team with some North Shore players. Annegrete and her partner did extremely well coming first in the datums. Their team was way ahead all the way to the final. They played the Rogers team – Margaret Rogers, John Rogers, Jim Stewart and David Owen in the final and the Rogers team had a narrow win. Congratulations to the Rogers team who came second overall!
Cassandra Mitchell, Clare Filmer-Ramsay, Nerida Gillies and Sandy Carter finished a creditable 6th earning them a prize for the top ranked all women’s team. It was good to see so many Peninsula players entering this event. Hopefully there will be more next year.
It was a different story in the South West Pacific teams. Alan Davies, Vivien Eldridge, Robin Ho and Alex Cook were the only Peninsula members playing and we did not do very well. This was an extremely tough event. I [Vivien] have never seen so many top players gathered in one room – Ron Klinger, Liam Milne, Peter Hollands, Tony Nunn, Andrew Peake, David Weston, Sartaj Hans, Peter Gill, Sophie Ashton, Kim Morrison, Michael Courtney, Joan Butts, Jessica Brake, Nick Hughes, Andy Hung and many more. These are names that every bridge player should be familiar with. Liam Milne seems to win everything, and this was no exception.
Playing 3x20 board matches a day for 3 days (restricted) and 3x20 boards a day for 4 days (SWPT) was pretty taxing.
Peninsula players managed to all get together at Bamiyan Restaurant for a well-deserved night out where the food was delicious!
