Sarah and Sue 1The PBC 50th Anniversary Party held on Saturday 3rd September was a wonderful celebration of the club. 180 attended and enjoyed bridge followed by a splendid lunch.

Colin Mingay entertained us with humorous anecdotes, followed by the historic Duke of Cumberland hand, also played by James Bond in Moonraker. John Castle recalled the early days of the club and the wonderful individuals who founded and developed the Club. Sue Riley did a marvellous job as MC, as well as recalling some of the history. She acknowledged the contributions of our longer established members who have been part of the club for more than 30 years, as well as our Honorary Life Members.

We particularly enjoyed the tale of the petition to reinstate afternoon tea as a Club institution. Verl did a sterling job as always as Director for the event. Trish Giles spoke of the friendliness of the club, and Alan acknowledged the wonderful work of the Bridge Education team, which is bringing so many new members into the club. Bill Fitzsimons spoke of his experience as a newer member, coming in through the education program and enjoying the friendly and supportive atmosphere of the club.

The day was made possible by the large number of members who contributed to the day- it was a marvellous team effort. But mainly thanks are due to Sarah Young who organised the whole event.
