The Charity Day on Monday 4 September was well attended across the full range of members. Check the full results on our website. The restricted section winners, Sue Davies, Terry Mackin, Gil Elliot and Terry Herfort each took home a bottle of wine. Here are first hand reports first from Terry Herfort and secondly from Marg Cliffe:
Terry: "I was keen to attend my second charity day, as I so much enjoyed my first. Well, Monday certainly lived up to my expectation and in fact succeeded my expectations.
Why? Charity Day is a day of lots of talking, friendship, congeniality, bonhomie and bridge. And all for a good cause. The fact that the proceeds of the day were going to two honourable local charities made it worthwhile.
The day started with delicious dips and crackers, and a hive of activity as people swarmed around the raffle tables to buy tickets from a wide range of raffles – hampers, half dozen bottles of wine, Oroton hand bag, bottle of whisky etc. Everybody was in a charitable mood and the money flowed into the two designated charities.
Lunch consisted of a smorgasbord of tantalizing homemade soups with crusty bread, followed by cakes and addictive profiteroles. At the end of the day, we had wine and cheese, more friendly conversation to reflect and digest on a wonderful day.
Oh, the bridge wasn’t too bad either!
The multifaceted Sue Riley did a sterling job as organizer and manager of the day, and I thoroughly congratulate her for her hard work, and a job very well done. I look forward to the next one.”
Marg: "What a great day! The food, company and bridge made for a fun time.
The bridge was directed by Jim and Terry Rothwell We had three sections running which was great to be able to play at the level at which we all felt comfortable. As usual nothing was a problem to these two gentlemen and we all had a very pleasant, relaxing time.
Thank you to Sue Riley for another outstanding effort in catering and organising her army of volunteers. The nibblies and the soups were outstanding. How we backed up for the
scrummy desserts and cakes we are not sure but we felt thoroughly spoilt.
Thank you to all who purchased raffle tickets either prior to or on the day. There were some popular wins!
Peninsula Bridge Club presents the proceeds from this day to the Rural Fire Brigade and Mona Vale Hospital Women's Auxiliary each year. The representative from the Rural Fire Brigade advised us that PEBC is their main sponsor and that the money donated each year makes such a difference in providing practical items for these organisations. It felt good to be involved at a community, grass roots level.
If you couldn’t attend this year, make a mental note to try and come along next time. Also please consider either donating items, cooking or buying raffle tickets next year. All of you
who did so this year, a big well done and thank you to the friendliest club on the Peninsula!
