NEW Advanced/intermediate Saturday workshops - our first Advanced/intermediate monthly workshop on using the Jacoby 2NT Convention as a response to Partner's Major Opening (instead of a Limit Raise) is on Sat 10 Feb 9.30-11.30am.
This workshop is for keen players who want to add to their established bidding system.
The focus of this lesson is the Jacoby 2NT convention. Players should be familiar with: five-card major-suit opening bids and responses; valuing responder’s hand using dummy points (SP); making a single raise, a limit raise, a forcing raise and a pre-emptive raise using natural methods. We will look at responder’s hand type for the Jacoby 2NT.
The concept of using 2NT as a conventional forcing raise and the subsequent auction will be introduced and practiced. Note that the real purpose behind an artificial game-forcing raise is to investigate slam possibilities, not game possibilities.
The emphasis will be on how the opener’s rebid will help the partnership evaluate prospects for slam. We will walk through the sample auctions carefully together to make sure you are comfortable with this new convention. We will also discuss (and practice) the alert procedure for this convention (both 2NT and opener’s rebid must be alerted).
The deals have some slams that can be bid. This may be difficult if you are unfamiliar with slam bidding methods. However, if you are familiar with Blackwood, the explanation should make sense... So read on...
For newer, keen players, a member of the Bridge Ed Team will host a table to help you follow the bidding and play at your table at the workshop - so we need you to let us know if you wish to attend on Sat 10 Feb and want an experienced Bridge Ed team member to supervise your table. I will also send out notes before the workshop to all players who pre-register at:
