Gradient from green to red

Around October 2018 Sandy Carter and I decided to move from the green to the red section to improve our bridge.

Initially this was quite daunting as many players have been in the red section for quite some time. We arrived early but still seemed to have to start a new table in the next row as everyone had “their” spot.

However, it turned out it really didn’t matter what time we got there as we always were able to find a table and play in the red section - so it was an unfounded fear.

Our bridge has improved from well below 50% initially and we have even managed some masterpoints at times! The red section players are better defenders and more consistent than the green section players but there are few differences in the bidding systems used. Any players in the green section thinking of moving should not be concerned about their ability to cope. From our experience many of the green section players would do well in the red.

Name-tags would however be an advantage as it is difficult to remember names.
