I am pleased to announce the start of a new Honour Board pairs competition, the Cath Whiddon Cup, for our many "super novice" players. In 2019 this will be restricted to players with less than 15MP as at end March, but this level might vary in future years.

Entrants will play as a pair over three Mondays 20 and 27 May and 3 June. Check the event details.

In announcing this competition the Committee and Tournament Sub-Committee are responding to the fact that more than one third of Peninsula’s members have less than 15MP.

The reason why we have so many newer players is that Peninsula is one of the very few clubs in the country to be growing consistently over many years, with this growth significantly due to our professional and experienced bridge education team, led by Cath Whiddon.

In 2010, Cath was asked if she would run a beginner class, and since then, bridge education at Peninsula has gone from strength to strength.

Cath leads an experienced and well qualified team of bridge educators, who offer beginner courses and ongoing lessons, and initiated our supervised sessions.

Peninsula has been recognised by the Australian Bridge Federation (ABF) as an accredited teaching club since 2015.

Cath was the first teacher in Australia to receive ABF accreditation as a Star Teacher and our club has benefited immensely from her passion and talent for teaching bridge.

Many of our Honour Board events are named in recognition of members who have made an outstanding contribution to the Club.

This new pairs competition presents the perfect opportunity for the Club to honour Cath for the outstanding contribution she has made.
