Cath Whiddon and David Farmer triumphed in the 2019 Padman Trophy. They were leading with one session to go and managed to win the final session to confirm their victory.
Runners-up were Hans van Weeren and Anne Small ahead of Jan McLennan and Linda Abbenbroek.
The Padman was played over eleven Tuesday nights from February through December with the top 9 scores counting.

Chris Dixon is a long term and much loved member at PBC. When his electric wheelchair broke down last week, members quickly rallied to his aid. $7,530 was raised!
This has enabled Chris to buy a brand new electric wheelchair to suit his specific needs. Chris is thrilled that he will be mobile again and wishes to pass on his thanks to everyone who has contributed. He is looking forward to being back at the Club and hopes to be able to make it to some night games as well.
Thank you all for your very generous support!

I would like to thank Peninsula members for this sensational surprise. It could not have happened at a better time as I was struggling and this will give me a new lease of life.
The new electric wheelchair gives me my independence back and allows me to get to bridge under my own steam on the tough days. Maybe even play some night games
It will give some respite to Marieta and John, my bridge chauffeurs, who can attest I am not smiling all the time.
After buying the chair there was some money left which I will put toward air conditioning and mobility aids for my home. My circumstances have changed recently and I may have to move so I am holding off until that is finalised.

We will be having a dinner get-together for all Peninsula members participating in the Canberra Summer Festival of Bridge 2020. I have made a provisional booking at Bamiyan on 62/10 Lonsdale St, Braddon, for Sunday 12 January at 7pm. Bamiyan is a wonderful Afghani restaurant, an easy 10 minute walk from the Rex. It is licensed but you may also BYO – corkage $3 pp.
As it is a very busy time in Canberra, I need to confirm numbers by 30 December so please email me ASAP at
Look forward to seeing you all in Canberra!

What a day!! As Sue, our fabulous director said, ‘it was the best Melbourne Cup Day ever at PBC’. Great fun with friends, fabulous hats, fantastic food and wine, sweeps and of course, the reason we all come together as a club, bridge.
Vivien has loaded some pictures which you can see here.
Congratulations to all the fashionistas who made so much of an effort and special congratulations to our best dressed lady Katherine, a visitor to the club and friend of Beverly Schultz.

The 2019 Committee invited all our wonderful volunteers to drinks and nibbles at the Dee Why Grand hotel on Thursday 12 December to say thank you! See the flier.
While the numbers were not large in comparison with the huge number of members who do volunteer at the club, it was a great chance to chat with others who might contribute in a completely different way.
If the 2020 Committee agrees, some kind of volunteer "thank you" event might become a regular tradition. There were more photos of the event (thank you Jen Ardill!) posted on our Facebook group.

Eleven tables played in our NSWBA UHMP Championship final on Friday 29 November, with the boards scored across the state. The state wide results are now available together with the details of the event.
Congratulations to Sandy Carter and Nerida Gillies who came second in the 25-50MP category, each winning a Bridge Shop voucher and a subscription to the Novice edition of the Australian Bridge magazine.
On the same link the NSWBA event organiser invites comments from any participant, in the lead up to the event being held again in November 2020.

Lots of food and lots of friendly faces at this year’s Christmas Party. Check out the photos!
Thanks to all those volunteers who helped – you are the club’s Christmas present to our members.
(And particular thanks to Gayle who dropped out of playing on the day to fill in for the expected help who was unexpectedly ill on the day! And also to Andrew Ikin for doing all sorts of unexpected tasks on the day - David.)
