There were 35 tables at the Peninsula Congress today directed by John McIlrath. The full results can be found in Peninsula Results. The best Peninsula team were Lynn Baker, Yvonne Perkins, Vona Hadfield and Erin Waterhouse. Peninsula came first and second in the novice section. Well done to all!
Many thanks to all who contributed to make this a great day especially Alan Davies who did most of the hard work, Rachael and Maurice who bought all the food and wine and everyone else who brought along snacks and cakes. Thanks also to John McIlrath for his fine directing.
Elizabeth Postle received a Local Achievement Award from the NSW Government for her services to the community. Her web-site griefandsympathy.com offers a unique platform for those suffering bereavement or loss of any kind. Congratulations!
The winners of the 2015 Michael Marks Trophy are Peter Robinson and Lynn Baker who played East/West in the Green section. With a score of 69.10% they blitzed the field. Well done!
Peninsula Bridge Club participated in the Bridge for Brain Research Challenge on Monday. It was a great success with over $1700 being raised for Neuroscience Research Australia. Thanks to all those who helped especially Rachael Loomes and Sue Riley. Also thanks to all the members who contributed to the afternoon tea and bought raffle tickets.

A few players from Peninsula attended the State Mixed Pairs finals at the NSWBA on the weekend. There was a distinct lack of distinction! Margaret and John Rogers were the only pair who managed to achieve more than 50% in the qualifying rounds. The Swiss Pairs on Sunday was not much better. We all had a torrid time against quite strong opposition and managed not to distinguish ourselves in any way at all. Lori and Jeanette were becoming so comfortable at table 43 that they were thinking of adding a patio and changing the curtains! Hopefully we all learned something from this experience and managed to enjoy the games regardless.

54 pairs participated in the Swiss Pairs on Sunday and a good number of Peninsula members played and did very well. The winners were Michael Wilkinson and John Newman with Terry Bodycote and Paul Weaver in second place. Pat Cummings and Margaret Draper came third overall. Rachael and Maurice Loomes were 6th and Jim Rothwell and Peter Clarke were 8th. We had a bit of excitement with an unscheduled evacuation due to a little fire in the oven. However it all ended well and director Tony Howes remained calm throughout.
As usual the members put on a great spread. Thanks to everyone who helped make this such a successful event.
