Photo of phone camera

Are you adept with taking photos on your phone? Perhaps you could join our club photographer group.

This group of volunteers takes photos of happenings at the club both spontaneously as a roving photographer or by request from an event convener. They are the key step in showing you photos on the website and in the newsletter, and on our club TV slideshow.

If you feel able to join this group, keep reading and let me (David Farmer, 0415 715 743) know.

What you probably need to have

  • A phone or other camera that can take reasonable photos
  • Confidence to take photos of people including asking them to smile etc
  • Sensitivity to consider the feelings and rights of those you photograph
  • A willingness to learn those things listed below that you don't already know

What we can teach you if needed

  • Our preference for "landscape" format photos to suit the Club TV slideshow
  • Our preference for backgrounds that are not too bright or distracting from the photo's main subject
  • For spontaneous photo opportunities, our need for some brief but accurate accompanying text of "what, who and when"
  • How to share or upload the photos (and any text) so that we can use them in the website, newsletter and TV slideshow

Working with an event convener

Each of our special events has a nominated convener who, among other things, is responsible for event promotion and a post-event wrap. They will generally want to have a photographer to help with this, such as for shots of winners or of the event in progress etc. We will use a general email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to allow event conveners or others that need a photographer to make a request to volunteer photographers group, and to allow any volunteer photographer to respond if they are able to meet the request.

Who are our volunteer photographers

  • Heidi Colenbrander
  • Jen Ardill
  • Annegrete Kolding
  • Nerida Gillies
  • Maybe you?

Sharing/uploading the photos (and text)

We are currently using a few methods to share/upload photos from the photographer's phone. This is a work-in-progress as we determine the method that works best for both the photographers and the users of the photos. We will list the preferred method here when we have some further resolution, including the needs of any new volunteer photographers.

At present the best repository for photos is a Google Photo Album entitled Peninsula Bridge Club Photos which can be accessed at https://photos.app.goo.gl/mSo8Nu4LhURDldrI3 or more easily remembered http://bit.ly/penphotos. At the top right of this page is an icon to add a photo. On our smart phone you can install the Google Photos app and share your photos directly to the album. If it is not obvious what, when or who a photo is about, you can add a comment to it when it is in this album.
