Premises Update
I am pleased to be able to share good news regarding our future clubhouse.
Council value our club and the community benefits which it delivers. They have been in close communication with the Club throughout this year.
It is allocating a large dedicated room within the new Warriewood Valley Community Centre for the club, designed to meet our particular needs. The room will be dividable, so that lessons , practice play or small sessions can take place in conjunction with regular duplicate sessions. The whole area will be used for our larger events.
After consultation with community and stakeholders about their needs, the Council have revised the budget for the new larger Community Centre from $7m to $10m. Funds have been made available for the increased cost and the project is now underway. Council has put the project out to tender and once an architect has been chosen, the detailed design and development approval process will commence.
The requirements for the bridge club are included in the architect's brief and we will have opportunities during the design process to have further input.
Key points:
- We will remain in our current premises throughout 2020
- In March 2021 approximately, we will move to temporary premises - yet to be identified - Council is working with us to find something suitable
- Building the new larger centre is expected to take 18-24 months
- Following completion, we will be housed in the new dedicated space within the new Community Centre on a long term lease
We are very fortunate to have a Council which is so supportive and we look forward to an excellent outcome for the future security of the club.
2019 AGM
This year’s AGM is scheduled on Saturday 29 November, later than last year to allow plenty of time for auditing requirements. I hope you can attend.
Information about the AGM will be circulated in the next few weeks.
At the AGM it is mandatory that all positions are declared vacant. Several people currently on the Committee will be retiring this year after several years of major contribution to the club.
Please consider getting involved in the running of your club. If you’d like more information, David or myself can give you a brief outline of the responsibilities of the different roles. Don’t be worried if you are new to the club or even to bridge itself - the most important criteria is a desire to help the club run well. Be assured that no one is thrown into the deep end – the committee members work as a team and someone is always there to support and assist you.
Enjoy October and hope to see you at the Melbourne Cup Day - always a fun event!
