July has been a month of celebration! We have been able to celebrate some wonderful member milestones, with Gino celebrating 50 years of membership and Joyce Low turning 90. Congratulations to other members who are having significant birthdays- please let Mary Farrell know ahead of time so we can organise an afternoon tea, as we all love our cake!
We have also had some success in the competitive arena, with our narrow win at the Sydney North Interclub Pairs Event held at Trumps. It was a very friendly event which always makes the day a success, regardless of the outcome.
The Committee, assisted by some hardworking members (thank you Rob Scott!) have been busy with the recruiting of an administration assistant. More than 75 applications were received with a high standard of applicant. We hope to have someone established in the role early in August, which will be a tremendous boon to the efficient running of the Club.
I hope you have considered coming along to our Swiss Pairs Congress on 30 July. It is a wonderful event that suits players of all levels. It was my very first competition at the Club and I remember how much I enjoyed the day, even though 56 boards was a bit of a shock to the system!
Our Charity Day is coming up on 4 September, and is one of our major fund raising events. Please see if you can come along and support the day, and of course donations for the raffle will be very much appreciated.
I am away in August visiting my family in the UK, so have a wonderful month and happy bridging!
