Thanks to the Benevolent Society who run the Meals on Wheels service opposite the Club, we are able to offer reservations for our mobility challenged players after 12 noon weekdays for eight of the spaces reserved for their volunteer delivery drivers. These eight spaces comprise the five left-most spaces and the three right-most spaces when facing Meals on Wheels (leaving the four centre spaces available for their volunteers to use when returning from their deliveries).

This is a favour to our club's members and it is important that we use it considerately. It is an opportunity for us to help our members with severe mobility issues.

Note that these additional spaces are normal width car spaces - that is, they do not have the additional width that Disability Parking spaces normally have to allow for wheel-chairs and similar needs.

To ensure good use without contention of these eight additional spaces, and avoid the risk that a mobility-challenged member does not unexpectedly find themselves without a relied-on close parking spot just before a session starts, we manage a reservation system for these spaces along these lines:

  • We appoint a readily contactable volunteer coordinator for these spaces - Mike Gibb has volunteered to take on this role
  • Those members with Disability Parking permits wishing to reserve one of these spaces request it from the coordinator together with their car registration number and their regular session days - by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone to Mike Gibb at 0487 750 247
  • The coordinator allocates reservations for these spaces firstly to those who have a severe mobility challenge (eg need to use walking frames or sticks etc), but otherwise on a "first in, first served" basis
  • Any missed use of a reserved space or use of or intrusion onto an unreserved space may result in loss of access to the system for a period of time - members with reservations who no longer need them need to advise the coordinator before the day
  • A member can also seek Committee agreement to being granted additional priority based on a marked additional need
  • The coordinator publishes a list of space reservations on the web (http://bit.ly/PBCMobAccPkg) and noticeboard (normally on Friday) for the following Monday to Friday week
  • Any of these 8 spaces still showing as unallocated on the morning of the day are available for any member with a Disability Parking permit but only after 12 noon
  • Those using the spaces are requested to take the opportunity from time to time to thank the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Coordinator, Milly Wallace, so that she and the Benevolent Society are aware of how helpful this is.

This is one of our measures to ease our parking problems. It is a work-in-progress. Any constructive suggestions are welcome.
