The AGM took place on Saturday 29 September and was well attended by members.
The Committee was pleased to report a very successful year, made possible by the wonderful support of our team of directors, the Bridge Education Sub Committee, the Tournament Sub Committee and the many helpers who assist in the running of the club.
The past year has been a busy year for the outgoing committee, and I thank them for all their hard work. A special thanks to Terry Rothwell and John Rogers who are stepping down from the Committee. The new Committee has now been elected, and I welcome Ken Watson and Susan Eason on board.
At the AGM, Terry Rothwell, Vivienne Eldridge and Robin Hoey were appointed as Life Members, in recognition of their long term and generous contributions of volunteer work to the Club.
Congratulations to Daphne Evans who has become a Gold Member after 25 years of membership.
There was engaged discussion of the Special Resolutions covering member suggested amendments to the new Constitution, followed by voting on each - two of the eight resolutions received the 75% majority required.
Regarding the Premises, we have been in contact with our Council representative and they have reassured us of their commitment to the Club, and reaffirmed the time frame of meeting with us in November. By that date, the Consultant’s review of the centres and community needs will be complete and the Council will be in a position to inform of the future plans for the Nelson Heather Centre and the Bridge Club premises.
Thank you for responding enthusiastically to the request to express your views to Council, via the petition, email or letter. Your response communicated very powerfully to Council the importance of the Club to and the level of concern shared by members. I will continue to update you on any further developments.
