This year's winners of the Charlie Mitchell Shield run on Sat 31st October are Yvonne Perkins and Faye Carnonovale. Congratulations.
It is a Red point, single session event and is in memory of stalwart past member, Charlie Mitchell. The shield was donated by Patricia and Ian Giles
Charlie Mitchell was a President, Director, Mentor and Life Member of our great club. He died in2002 and survived by his Life and Bridge partner Lilian.
Charlie Mitchell was a larger-than-life character with:
- Massive Presence
- Mentor to many
- Menace to his Opponents and
- Player extraordinaire
- He could tell you what was in your hand before the end of the first card was led.
He and Lillian, his wife, won events for many years. He contributed to the club by holding offices on the committee including President and directing for many years. This event celebrates his contribution.
Charlie was by far and away the Club’s most successful player, checkout the Honour Boards around the room and will see his name more than 50 times. He was always courteous, especially towards less experienced players who he coached at the table, provided he was not otherwise engaged listening to the cricket on headphones, whilst demolishing the opposition.
