Why Vuko Place ?

About 4 years ago when first advised Nelson Heather Community Centre was to be rebuilt, a sub committee headed by Sarah Young initially did two things :-
1. Made strong representations to the Northern Beaches Council about how important the club was to the local community and why we needed a purpose built long term home in the new building. This was accepted and we worked with the architects on a club design;

2. We searched the Northern Beaches for a suitable temporary premises. We found no affordable such building understanding we needed a large space with tables and chairs permanently set up i.e. no putting all our property away after each day or so.  Council finally offered us Vuko Place, a facility that they own. We now are in a semi-legal  arrangement (MOU) to occupy Vuko until the new community centre is ready for us to return. We have very favorable occupancy arrangements for Vuko which importantly allows
us the opportunity to stay viable as a club.

We very much appreciate the support that Council has given us.

How did we get to this stage?
  • The Committee established a Relocation Working Group who in more recent months have been working on special tasks. Just some of these are :-
  • Developing the best operational clubhouse layout in the new space;
  • Additional toilet facilities;
  • Parking policy, new signage and improved driveway markings;
  • New NBN line and testing of our IT systems;
  • Establishing an appropriate speaker (PA) system and supplier;
  • Improved security systems for the building;
  • Improvements to the existing air-conditioning systems;
  • Establishing our requirements for the actual move by a Removalist;
  • Establishing new or changed furniture requirements;
  • Changed club cleaning scope of works;
Who has done all this ?

Rob Scott chairs a Relocation Working Group made up of :-
Jen Ardill, Simon Hunter, Mike Gibb, David Farmer, Greg Hay, Ken Watson and Peter Chemello. Alan Davies was an adviser at the early stages.
