8 teams participated in the Members Only Teams Day and it was a very enjoyable day directed by the most affable and able Colin Mitchell. The joint winners were the Giles team with Trish Giles, Anita Kite, Pat Cummings and Verl Lawrence and the Whiddon team with Cath Whiddon, Anne Small, Chris Duggin and Jocelyn Bertram. Well done all!
The workshop was well-attended - read more about it HERE
How often do you pick up a one loser hand?
On Monday there was such a hand for East and nearly every pair ended up in 6D and no-one made it. Houdini might have done so! East has to play two rounds of clubs and then ruff with the 7 (giving you the 12th trick!). But then the question is how to return to your hand if the AH has already been played.
The evening GNOT ended on Tuesday with a very close finish. The Davies team with Cassandra Mitchell, Clare Filmer-Ramsay, Alan Davies and Vivien Eldridge ended up the winners. David Farmer, Joy Taylor, Lyn Smith and Cath Whiddon were second, one point ahead of Ron Smith, Anne Small and Margaret and Michael Draper. Thanks to director John McIlrath. Well done to all!
The Trumps Friendly Pairs was held on Sunday and a few Peninsula members participated. Alan Davies and Vivien Eldridge ended up third after recovering from a very bad morning session and received a bag of goodies as a prize. Sylvia Billingham and Ian Hoschke also went home with a bag of treats for winning the novice prize.
The Charity day was a great success thanks mostly to the efforts of Sue Riley. Over $3000 was collected.
Thanks also to Rachael Loomes and Wendy Starkie and everyone else who contributed to the day in all sorts of ways. There are too many to mention.
