10 Peninsula players entered the NSWBA State Individual competition yesterday and did very well. The event was won by Julian Foster, Jen Ardill was second and Vivien Eldridge was equal third with Warren Lazar! You play with and against all the other participants using a standard system card.
The Peninsula Pairs Congress was a most successful event. Lyn Smith and Jocelyn Bertram were the best Peninsula Pair. Click here for the full results. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way and to Ronnie Ng, the director. Also thanks to Bill Fitzsimons who was called upon at the last minute to be a much needed caddy.
Some Peninsula members attended the Coffs Harbour Congress and a good time was had by all. The Smith team with Lyn Smith, Cath Whiddon, Alan Davies and Vivien Eldridge were second in the <1000 mps section of the open division. If you haven't been before you should consider attending the Coffs Congress. It is very well organised in a great location with an excellent lunch supplied every day and good prizes for the winners.
Peninsula Bridge Club achieved a record charity target so thanks to all who contributed so generously this year. Yesterday Sue Riley handed over cheques for $4400 each to the delighted recipients - the Rural Fire Brigade and The Mona Vale Hospital Auxiliary.
The Club Teams Championship was decided today and the winners were the Smith Team of Lyn Smith, Cath Whiddon, Alan Davies and Vivien Eldridge. There was a close race for second place with the Baker Team (Lynn Baker, Yvonne Perkins, Len Evershed, Michael and Margaret Draper) just pipping the Peters Team (Bev Peters, Jo Jarvis, Rachael and Maurice Loomes). Well done to all! Thanks to Brian Soutter who directed the teams as well as the side game.
Rachael and Maurice Loomes did very well at the State Open Pairs on the weekend, winning the morning session N/S and qualifying second N/S for the Sunday final where they outfoxed some of Australia's top players.. Excellent effort!
On Sunday November 29, Peninsula was one of 20 clubs in NSW to host this final. We had 8 tables and each pair played 56 boards over 2 sessions. Whilst we will not know how our members have fared until all the results have been submitted to the Association by the clubs, certain of our pairs performed well and may have done very well statewide.
Ray Hurst and Heidi Colanbrander came first in both sessions. Annegrete Kolding and Susan Jensen came second in both sessions. Suzanne Cole and Jennifer Ardill came first in one session and second in the other.
We will keep our fingers crossed that they have performed well once all the results have been submitted.
