The Club Pairs championship was held over three weeks at the club. Ronnie Ng directed and did a great job. This was made more complicated by a power failure in the third week and he was relying on the laptop’s battery power to keep going. But Ausgrid came good and the power was restored by 2pm and we were all happy to be playing under lights again instead of in the dark.
21 pairs signed up. Linda Abbenbroek and Jan McLennan had a comfortable lead after week 2 and they were unable to be overtaken although Jen Ardill and Patrick Starck came very close. So it was a win for the veteran players this time.

As a club we aspire to facilitate enjoyable bridge for all. The diversity of our bridge players can add to this enjoyment - but can also present challenges if behaviours learned elsewhere conflict with common courtesy and the ethical foundations of our game. The club wants to encourage and celebrate positive behaviours and identify and appropriately respond to other behaviours that might threaten our goal of enjoyable bridge for all.
Here is the club's Code of Conduct (maintained in our Playing Rules):
Congratulations to the winners of the SALT5 teams competition: Team Dowling (Carolyn Dowling, Leslie Treasure, Loraine Neville, Jeanette Weaver) who narrowly defeated Team Dickinson (Sue Dickinson, Sharon Thompson, Ray Moon and Maris Taylor). It is interesting to note that Team Dowling had a handicap of +10 whereas Team Dickinson, as rookies, were -17.
Team Kolding (Annegrete Kolding, Heidi Colenbrander, Sarah Young, Ray Hurst) were third.
Many thanks again to Robin Devries for convening and there is perhaps still time to enter SALT6 which starts on Monday 22nd Feb.
The SALT5 teams competition has one more week to run but our valiant convener Robin Devries is working on the next round including fine tuning his handicapping system which enables teams of all standards to compete on a more equal basis.
The SALT6 teams competition will start on Monday February 22nd and run over 6 weeks to March 29th. Games are played in the evening on BBO by teams of 4 people. Matches 2 x 10 board games. Masterpoints Green. Cost $25 per player.
If you haven't tried it, Teams is different and fun and playable at all levels of ability and experience. Each pair plays 10 games against each of the pairs in the opposing team. It is interesting for the two pairs to compare how they fared playing the same board but in the two different positions. Maybe have a Zoom meeting afterwards? As always we run a matchmaking service if you don’t have a full team. So why not have a go this time? Contact Robin Devries for more information on
