We have made significant progress towards running our own club games online and will run our first free trial BBO tournament this Sunday 19 April starting at 12 noon.
Join us for this free game - an important trial for us as players, directors and administrators. Based on the experience of others, players will benefit greatly from already being comfortable playing on BBO. For this trial we intend to play 18 boards over about two hours at a gentle 7 minutes a board - note that boards that are not complete at the end of each round will be automatically averaged so that players can be whisked to the next table.
To play on Sun 19 Apr:
- Check that you have already registered your BBO usernames on the PBC Usernames list - and, if not or if it needs updating, register your usernames using this form before 5pm Saturday 18 Apr (BBO will not let you play in this trial game unless your username has been accurately registered in this way)
- Find a member from the above list who has also played on BBO to be your partner
- In the hour before the tournament starts, when you and your partner are both online on BBO, one of you needs to register you both as a pair in the "PBC 19Apr Pairs" tournament - check this 1min how-to video guide (but search in the available tournaments for "PBC") - we do expect to have plenty of places
- Make sure you and your partner are both logged onto BBO (with a cup of tea or whatever) at least five minutes before the tournament starts - when it starts you will be whisked to your table with your partner, opponents, and boards to play and the clock will be on!
- Use the Chat to Table to say hello to your opponents, remember to self-alert any artificial bids and, if you need to, call the Director using the blue button with the three horizontal lines. Enjoy!
- Oh, and if you should suffer a disconnection during the game, simply connect again and we will reseat you in the game as soon as possible - in the meantime we might need to fill your seat with a substitute
This trial game is made possible by the willingness of Charles Page, an experienced Queensland-based director, to use his BBO hosting permissions to set up this trial game for us before his other tournament commitments. John Rogers and I will be online directors for the game - a hands-on training experience for us so that we can pass it on to our other volunteer directors that have indicated a willingness to direct some of our future online sessions.
What's Comes Next?
The ABF is negotiating with BBO to provide a facilitated way for us to run our own regular BBO tournaments - while details are not finalised we anticipate this being in place by the end of April. The process will be similar to the trial game, but it will also allow you to earn ABF masterpoints. Stay tuned for further details.
