Ten teams competed in the 2019 Gold Point Teams (GNOT qualifier) event over three weeks in March.
Congratulations to the Davies team (Alan Davies, Vivien Eldridge, Alexander Cook and Tony Allen) who triumphed with a win over second placed Farmer team (David Farmer, Cath Whiddon, Jocelyn Bertram, Lyn Smith) in the last round - we played a 9 match round robin so all teams played all of the other teams.
Check the full results on our website. The top two teams able to play in the Metro Final will have their entries paid for by the Club.
Thirty four pairs competed for the 2019 Michael Marks Shield glory on Saturday 30 March, but only one pair, Terry and Jim Rothwell was able to triumph.
Runners-up were Vivien Eldridge and Patrick Starck.
See the full results from our website. Thanks to Annegrete Kolding as convener and to Ronnie Ng as director.
12 teams from Brisbane Waters Bridge Club travelled south to our club on Sunday 31 Mar for the annual Peninsula vs Peninsula interclub teams challenge. Most travelled by ferry across Broken Bay and were picked up in a convoy of cars excellently organised by John and Margaret Rogers.
It was a very enjoyable day. Vivien pulled the event together superbly, helped by Ronnie as director and by contributions of time and food by many Peninsula members. Special mention to Barbara Anderson who spent half a day volunteering without playing. I believe we made a good impression on our guests!
Six of us from Peninsula (Susan Eason, Sandy Carter, Sandie Rooke, Andrew Ikin, Sarah Young and Gayle King) travelled across the Blue Mountains to Orange for two days of bridge at the NSW State 2019 Novice and Restricted Pairs - March 23-24.
The countryside was very dry once we left the Blue Mountains and then we hit some heavy rain so let's hope it is a beginning of a good Autumn rainfall for the tableland farmers and gardeners.
Sandie and Andrew played in the Restricted (less than 300 MP) section. The rest of us played in Novice (less than 100 MP).
Dear Fellow PBC Members, with the end of February being half was through our financial year I thought I would report back on how we are going from a purely financial perspective.
Our half-year surplus is $25,701 compared to a loss last year of $1,344 so that is very positive.
Eight teams from Peninsula Bridge Club joined teams from across Metro North region at Trumps Bridge Centre on Sunday 10 Mar to battle for the Margaret Smale Interclub Teams Challenge trophy.
In the end Trumps managed to retain the Margaret Smale Interclub Teams Challenge trophy beating North Shore Bridge Club 12 to 11, well ahead of third placed Peninsula Bridge Club (who squeaked in ahead of Manly-Warringah Leagues Bridge Club). Only a few Peninsula teams did well throughout the day.
Congratulations to Derek Tyms and Ado Hardy for winning the three week 2019 Club Pairs Championship held in February.
Derek and Ado had a great last round score of 67% to edge ahead of the previous leaders Alan Davies and Vivien Eldridge.
Derek and Ado are international members, and have since returned to Thailand and are likely to be back in another five or six months.
Dear all,
What a start to the year - so good to see a fabulous attendance by Peninsula members at both the Canberra and Gold Coast congresses with lots of success at the table plus wonderful social and fun times. Congratulations to all our novices who braved the competitive space for the first time and for doing so well.
I would like to thank Alan Davies for being a wonderful Chief Director for the last two and a half years. Alan took on this role in 2017 and kindly continued until January 2019. He has done a wonderful job, keeping all the directors informed of any changes to rules, advising and guiding our directors and helping to mentor our newer directors.
